Couples and Relationship Therapy

Relationships are hard work! They aren't easy. Most couples can benefit from support from time to time. And this doesn't mean they are on the brink of divorce! In fact, the openness to come to therapy can be a sign of relationship strength. But even if it feels like this is your last ditched attempt to make the relationship work, there's still hope! I work with couples/relationships of all kinds to work towards the relationship(s) they desire. Some of the areas I can help with are:

  • Relationship strain
  • Enhancing a sense of connection with one’s partner(s)
  • Improving communication patterns and conflict resolution skills
  • Addressing sexual concerns or desire discrepancies
  • Healing from affairs, betrayals, or other painful dynamics, initiating repair and rebuilding trust
  • Exploring issues surrounding emotional labour/burden
  • Adjusting to life changes and transitions (new parenthood, job changes, geographical moves, empty nests, retirement, etc.)
  • Adjusting or redefining relationship structures and agreements
  • Navigating extended family concerns
  • Addressing the impact of one partner’s mental health concerns on the couple's dynamic
  • Managing outside influences on the relationship
  • Deciding whether to stay in a relationship and try to make it work or to part ways in a healthy way (discernment counselling)

Available both in-person serving Waterdown, Burlington and Hamilton, as well as virtually across Ontario.

I have experience and training in supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and relationships of all structures including poly, ENM/CNM and open structures. While this has never been the bulk of my work, I strive to always create a safe and welcoming place for all people, and continually work to queer my relationship therapy process.

Perinatal Mental Health

I have a specific passion for helping birthing individuals and their partner(s) navigate the perinatal period – a sacred period full of love, joy, and vulnerability. This is a period fraught with numerous changes, transitions, adjustments, and learning edges. It can bring a whole new sense of self/identity and challenges one hasn’t had to face before. All of this can be very overwhelming. With my warm and supportive approach, my goal is to help you tackle these concerns, gain new insights, and learn new ways to cope with what can feel like a whole new world.

Areas of experience include:

  • Support through pregnancy and post-partum
  • Perinatal mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, rage, and scary or intrusive thoughts
  • Managing guilt, shame, or questions around whether you are good enough or if you're failing at this whole parenting thing
  • Handling the emotional challenges or identity shifts in the transition to parenthood and beyond
  • Enhancing the connection with one’s infant/child
  • Feeling lonely or isolated
  • Navigating fertility and pre-conception
  • Exploring and improving self-image and your changing body
  • Processing traumatic birthing experiences
  • Balancing work and parenting, making time for self-care
  • Healing childhood wounds/legacies
  • Preparing for a subsequent pregnancy
  • Support through miscarriage, pregnancy loss, infant loss, or termination
  • Supporting a partner with perinatal mental health concerns
  • Perinatal mental health support for non-birthing partners
